In three words
My story
Hello, my name is Matthew H. Lovett. I am a lifelong resident of Statesboro, Georgia, a graduate of Statesboro High School Class of 1998, and a pastor, entrepreneur, licensed funeral director and embalmer, and owner of Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home.
I hold degrees in Business Management and Finance, Funeral Service Education, and Religious Studies, along with numerous certifications and professional credentials. I consider myself a lifelong learner with a passion for studying topics related to business, personal growth, leadership, philosophy, spirituality, and the profession of death care.
My lifelong dream was to become a mortician and own a funeral home, a goal I have been blessed to achieve. I enjoy teaching, mentoring, preaching, and helping others discover their value, purpose, and potential. I also enjoy woodworking, building custom furniture, restoring and renovating homes, gardening, cooking, traveling, and playing the bass guitar and trombone.
I believe in being authentic, embracing who you are, and never allowing your current circumstances to determine your future. My goal as a mentor is to encourage, inspire, and help others recognize that with faith, hard work, and perseverance, they can accomplish more than they ever imagined.

- Right now, I’m focused on personal growth, self-care, and learning how to be present in the moment. I’m working on not allowing life’s challenges to consume my thoughts and instead focusing on what I can control, maintaining a positive mindset, and becoming the best version of myself. It’s been a journey of self-discovery, balance, and learning to give myself the same grace that I often give to others.

- Learning right now
- One thing I’m learning right now is how to slow down and enjoy the present moment. I’ve spent much of my life taking care of others, solving problems, and carrying responsibilities, but lately I’ve been learning the value of self-care, protecting my peace, and focusing on growth from the inside out. It’s teaching me that you can’t pour into others effectively if you’re running on empty yourself.

- I would encourage you to check out yourself first. Learn who you are, discover your strengths, and never stop learning. The more you invest in your personal growth and knowledge, the more opportunities you’ll create for your future.
Why I mentor
I mentor because I believe one of the greatest ways we can serve others is by investing in them. I want to encourage young people, share the lessons I’ve learned, and help them recognize that they are capable of accomplishing more than they may realize.
Best advice
Know your worth and never let anyone make you feel inferior. Your background may explain your story, but it does not have to define your future. Keep learning, keep growing, and never stop believing in what’s possible.
A win I’m proud of
I’m proud that I’ve learned to embrace who I am and appreciate the unique path God has given me. I’ve never desired to be like everyone else. I’m also proud that I’ve been able to turn dreams and goals into accomplishments through hard work, perseverance, and faith.
Fun fact
My childhood nickname is Pooh and many people still call me by my nickname.

A note for you
If you’re nervous about meeting me, just know that I’m human too. I’ve made mistakes, faced challenges, and had to learn many lessons along the way. This isn’t about judgment, it’s about growth. Come as you are, be yourself, and know that you’ll be talking with someone who genuinely wants to see you succeed.
