Why We Created the Second Start Scholarship

The Second Start Scholarship was inspired by the personal journey of the founders of Next Generation Scholars, Kelvin and Joybora Robinson.

Like many non-traditional students, Kelvin and Joybora did not immediately pursue college after high school. Instead, they spent several years building their family, working hard, and navigating the responsibilities of adulthood before eventually deciding to return to school to pursue their educational goals.

Their experience as non-traditional college students showed them that many individuals delay higher education due to work obligations, family responsibilities, financial challenges, or life circumstances. However, these experiences often create individuals who are deeply motivated, resilient, and committed to making a meaningful impact in their communities.

The Second Start Scholarship was created to recognize and support individuals who make the courageous decision to pursue education later in life and work to build a better future for themselves and others.
