Second Start Scholarship

Apply for the Second Start Scholarship.

The Second Start Scholarship supports non-traditional college students who have returned to school to pursue their educational goals. Applications open June 1 and close August 1 each year. Applications received outside this window are reviewed on a rolling basis as space allows.

Eligibility

Please confirm you meet these requirements before applying.

  • 23 years of age or older
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Completed at least 15 credit hours
  • Maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher

What you’ll need

  • Completed scholarship application form
  • Personal essay responding to the scholarship prompt
  • Current unofficial or official college transcript
  • One letter of recommendation from a professor, mentor, or supervisor

Essay prompt

Many students take a non-traditional path to higher education. Describe your journey back to college and explain how earning your degree will allow you to make a positive impact on your community or the lives of others.

Submit a personal essay of 300-600 words responding to the prompt.
